Yale Graduate Housing Office wins Silver Innovation Prize

July 2012

Recently the Yale Graduate Housing Office received a Silver Innovation Prize or its online off-campus housing listing service at the annual CT Quality Improvement Award (CQIA) conference.

In 2010, Yale Graduate Housing (YGH) implemented a new off-campus housing listing service through Lifetopia. This service provides a secure means for property owners and members of the Yale community to collaborate on real estate transactions—users can search for rental properties or search homes for sale. It also provides a roommate finder and a self-service listing option for property owners, taking away the need for manual financial transactions and paper forms.

During the first year of this service, there was a 10% increase in properties being listed and nearly a 20% increase in rental reviewers. Those percentages continue to rise monthly. In addition, YGH has received rave reviews from property owners about the system’s ease of use and prospective tenants now have more information at their fingertips when deciding which property to rent or purchase – they can see how far an apartment is from the Yale Shuttle line or review photos of a property’s interior.

The CQIA Innovation Prize recognizes accomplishments of organizations that solved a problem through a new innovation or leveraged an opportunity with an innovation. Applications for prizes, which range from Bronze to Platinum, need to show an opportunity leveraged or a problem faced; the innovative response or solution; and concrete results.
